Stretching over four kilometers from Tran Quoc Hoan Road to Cong Hoa Road in Tan Binh District and connecting to T3 terminal, the new four-lane road is expected to ease long-lasting traffic congestion around the international airport, local newspaper Tuoi Tre reported Thursday.
The road, designed for motorized vehicles to travel at a speed of 50 km/h, will be built from 2021 to 2024.
A four-lane viaduct of nearly one kilometer will also be built in front of the terminal.
Tan Son Nhat, Vietnam’s largest airport, has been overloaded for many years and the resultant damage has been evident in visible cracks and deformation and subsidence of the asphalt surface on its runways and taxiways, which have been reported since 2016.
The airport has been serving 36 million passengers a year since 2017, well above its designed capacity, which was 25 million passengers per year by 2020.
